German-born French filmmaker Dominik Moll studied filmmaking at City College in New York and the French National Film School (IDHEC). He then worked as an assistant editor, editor and assistant director, with such filmmakers as Marcel Ophuls and Laurent Cantet.

He wrote and directed his first feature, Intimité, in 1994.  His second feature, With a Friend Like Harry… (2000), was screened in competition in Cannes and won numerous César awards, including Best Director and Best Actor for Sergi Lopez.  Lemming (2005) opened the Cannes Film Festival.  That was followed by The Monk (2011); News From Planet Mars (2016); and Only the Animals (2019), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and snagged the Audience Award in Tokyo and the ARRI/OSRAM Award in Berlin. Only the Animals was released in the US by Cohen Media Group in 2020.

Moll has collaborated with longtime co-writer Gilles Marchand on most of his screenplays. He will make his first appearance in Hollywood for the North American Premiere of his new film The Night of the 12th, presented with Film Movement as the closing film of the American French Film Festival.
